Liquor tasting

Planning on tasting a few different kinds of exotic liquors, mainly in the Pastis family.
Event should be Saturday, March 31. Not yet sure where it will be, but probably in the east bay.

Gorilla Thursdays....@ Time Out

Well folks, I've been hanging out at one of downtown Concord's well known watering holes the last few weeks on Thursday night for their weekly called Gorilla Thursdays. MNKY Productions is in charge of the night & they provide music mostly in the drum & bass and breaks neck of the spectrum. There is a $5 door charge from 9pm on until they close at 2am. $2 Sierra Nevada on tap also.

Come on down to 1822 Grant Street in Concord, 1block from Todos Santos plaza if this sounds like something you might like to check out. You can say "Hello" to me. I'll be the 6'5" guy, probably at the bar or on the patio.

New Contra Costa Refugee From SF

I ended up here because I lost my rent-controlled apartment, which shattered my life into a million pieces. Thank God I had a couple of buddies to rent a room from while I try to reassemble the bits of my life. To make matters more complex: I lived downtown for a decade or more, and so I learned to live without a car. But my buddies who had a room for me to rent, well, they're out here near Citrus and Oak Grove in the way sticks, and so the nearest BART station is three miles. I'm slowly putting together some little existence out here, but it's rough. Plus, the three friends I had out this way got creeped out because I went on disability and they were too conservative to handle the fact that I'm receiving social services. But it is beautiful out here, and I'm going to keep trying to make it. Found a little Buddhist Temple and a Hindu Temple. That helped. Can't afford a car, so I'm buy roller skates to get around on. I will adapt somehow.

Fleet Week events in SF this weekend

This week is fleet week and lots of events are happening this weekend in SF.
The Chronicle says the best place to watch the shows are the Marina Green, Pier 39 or anywhere on the northern waterfront.

Schedule of events:
Fri 12:30-2:30 Red Bull Air Race qualifying
Fri 3:00 Blue Angels practice
Sat 11am-Noon Parade of US & Canadian Navy ships
Sat 12:30-2:30 Red Bull Air Race World Series
Sat 2:30 Air show begins
Sat 3:00 Blue Angels perform
Sun 10am-4pm Ship Tours
Sun 1pm Air show begins
Sun 3:00 Blue Angels perform
Mon & Tue 10am-4pm Ship Tours

If you're driving to the city around 3pm keep an eye out for the Angels. A few years ago, I went to visit a friend who lived in the Nob Hill district and we drank beers and watched the show from his aparment building rooftop. That was an awesome view of the show. Catching the ship parade is better to do at the Marina, while the planes fly all over the bay.

East Bay Regional Parks

Hey folks.

Last week, I was kicking it in Briones taking a hike when I passed a brochere box. Not suprisingly, there is a website for the regions parks. Check it out if looking for any hiking, picnic or other outdoor activities. They have great maps for downloading too, complete with topography. You can even sign up online for hikes in the publicly closed Vasco area.

I've only found one public viewing place, Mr Pickwick's Pub & Restaurant on Clayton Rd in Concord, where they are showing the games. They are also only open for England & USA games.

Anyone know of other places to watch the games?

Kool ade for a cause

Anybody who is going to be in the Concord area on Sunday around noon....my kids are having a kool ade stand because they want to donate to hurricane relief. It was totally their own idea, and i am sooo proud of them!! They did it for about 4 hours on Saturday and they've raised over $75 !! So if you're going to be in the area, send me a message and i'll give you directions.

Hi there. I figured us Contra Costans could use our own little tribe and I welcome you lovely ladies. I haven't really gone out of my way to make this tribe into anything too big, but I figure I could tell a little of my background.

My name's Kevin and I was born in San Francisco, but I grew up in Pleasant Hill. I also went to school and participated in youth soccer in Walnut Creek which is my current town of residence. I've lived in this area for most of my life and I love it. It may be a bit suburban, but it's not too far removed from the big city or city culture. My roots are here.

Thanks for joining up. I have ideas of growing a bit bigger and more community like, but I'm in no need to rush any natural development. If you know about an event in your town, post about it. If you have friends in our area, invite them in here. Everyone's most welcome.
